As I’ve noted to myself, I switch off between years of obvious milestones and years where the achievements are more subtle. This past year is one of the former; it’s been hectic and overwhelming and exhilarating and poignant - in my personal AND professional lives!
This year, I:
Stopped using Goodreads to track books and just read
Was a “Jew in the pew” for the first time in my married life
Finished my first year of teaching with minimal trauma and maximal nachas
Honed in on my personal style
Supported Samuel through a transitional career year
Moved to Long Island for a new pulpit
Graduated with my MA in Jewish Education
Spoke at two college Hillels about Reproductive Justice
Completed my first scholar-in-residence gig for Repro Shabbat
Witnessed my daughter’s first best-friendship
Successfully made adult friends in the same life stage of “raising small children”
Balanced pregnancy symptoms with parenting and working
Delivered my son just how I had hoped (albeit several days after he was due)
Named my son Eitan Lev, after my uncle and Samuel’s great-grandfather
This coming year, I hope to:
Commit to strengthening my body through intentional movement
Rediscover my identity as a writer
Go on adventures as a family of four
Wishing you all a gemar chatimah tovah!
