5785 in Review
This year has been a whirlwind of new: Shira’s meeting new milestones all the time, I spent time at camp for the first time, new jobs, new apartment, new (ish) community. I’m ready for a boring year - especially with the continued destruction in Gaza and the spate of school shootings that dominate my news feed.
With all of that in mind - here’s some accomplishments from the past year - in no particular order.
In 5785, I…
Started my first full time job
Met my Goodreads goal less than halfway through the (secular) year
Moved states without knowing where we’d land
Tried to comfort grieving friends
Supported loved ones in healing
Watched in amazement as my daughter went from rolling over to crawling to walking
Didn’t do any Elul thinking or reflecting
Debated theology with a nun and a priest
Cared for the ill as the only Jewish chaplain on staff
Listened to too many funerals on Zoom/speakerphone
Wrote my first academic paper since undergrad
Grew my hair out
Set internal boundaries
Cried a lot
Wanted to journal, but didn’t
Started wearing tefillin
In 5786, I hope to:
Find my creativity again
Spend less impulsively
Learn a new hobby
Be present
Pick up the swimming lessons I abandoned last year
Feel content in my community
Survive my first year teaching
